ACADEMIC ID AND CERTIFICATION

With an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) or ITIC (International Teacher Identity Card), you are usually eligible for reduced travel and admission to many museums. For more information and a listing of issuing office locations, visit www.isic.org. These cards are also issued in Spain and are generally less expensive here than in the U.S.

You may also want to look into the European Youth Card: http://www.injuve.es/movilidad-y-ocio/noticia/carne-joven-european-youth-card or the specific carné joven of your comunidad autónoma. You will find more specific information about the latter on the region and city guides.

To officially register in graduate courses, many Spanish universities require that you bring your original diploma and university transcript, sometimes bearing the Hague Apostille. If you are considering registering as a graduate student in a Spanish university, find out about specific requirements before you leave the U.S.

Graduate students can usually order business cards from their home university prior to departure. Cards can help make your name known and are useful after interviews. You can use the address and phone number of the department at home or your own. Once in Spain, you can print labels with your Spanish coordinates to affix to the back of the cards. You can also have cards made once in Spain.

Children are often required to provide certified birth certificates, academic records, and samples of schoolwork, especially in math and English, in order to enroll in school. You may need to get the Hague Apostille on these documents. Ask the school before leaving the U.S.
